This course introduces the role of pelvic physical therapy in the care of individuals with MRKH (Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome)/vaginal agenesis. Participants will review anatomy, etiology, and clinical presentation to understand implications for pelvic health and function, along with common physical, functional, and psychosocial considerations.
The session highlights the role of pelvic PTs within a multidisciplinary team and provides practical guidance on pelvic floor assessment tailored to anatomical variation and patient comfort. Evidence-informed interventions—including pelvic floor training, pain management, and dilation education—will be discussed. Emphasis is placed on trauma-informed, patient-centered care to support compassionate, effective clinical practice.
Participants of this class will:
- Describe the anatomy, etiology, and clinical presentation of MRKH syndrome and its implications for pelvic health.
- Identify common physical, functional, and psychosocial considerations in individuals with MRKH.
- Explain the role of pelvic physical therapy in the multidisciplinary management of MRKH.
- Apply evidence-informed pelvic PT interventions, including dilation education, pain management, and pelvic floor training.
About your instructor:
Tina Allen, PT, PRPC, BCB-PMD, has practiced physical therapy since 1993, earning her degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. After beginning in acute care and orthopedics at Loyola University Medical Center, she moved to Seattle and has specialized in pelvic health for over 25 years. She treats patients of all genders across the lifespan at the University of Washington Medical Center, focusing on pelvic pain, bladder/bowel dysfunction, oncology, and MRKH. Tina is a national speaker and former faculty at the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. She has contributed to NIH-supported pelvic pain education and multicenter research on interstitial cystitis.
