The intention of this class is deep, personal and professional transformation through evidence-based information and practices. You will learn to identify unhelpful relational patterns, like codependency, in your patients and others, and skills on how to use language and boundaries to create shifts that keep you grounded and prevent excessive energetic and emotional disruptions. Learning new strategies to preserve your own energy, wellness and passion while practicing appropriate self-care and boundaries will lead to helpful relationships with complex people and patients.
Participants of this class will:
- Understand helpful vs. dysfunctional patterns of relationship
- Practice techniques to center and stay grounded at work with detached compassion
- Be equipped to set up a shared responsibility model of patient care
- Understand and implement healthy boundary setting
- Develop self-care practices to sustain healthy habits and mindset both at work and outside of work
- Feel empowered and enabled to build relationships with patients under the shared responsibility model of patient care
About your instructors:
Jenna Ross
After graduating from Ithaca College, Jenna began and continues her career as a physical therapist at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids, MI. Since 2002 Jenna has focused her professional attention on treating women, men and children with pelvic health disorders. She is energized through education and enjoys her position as adjunct faculty at Grand Valley University, speaking at community events and mentoring students and other therapists. She has been faculty for Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute since 2009 and loves to inspire other rehab professionals treating pelvic floor dysfunction. She is a curriculum contributor for many of the Herman and Wallace course work including Pessary Fitting, Modalities, the Oncology Series and Capstone. She is an author of the chapter, “Manual Therapy for the Pelvic Floor” which was published in the book, “Healing in Urology.” Jenna co-authored the continuing education course, “Boundaries, Self-Care and Meditation” with her bestie Nari Clemons. Her most recent project has been partnering with the Jackson Foundation to build and teach a two-year masters level curriculum in pelvic health for physical therapists in Nairobi, Kenya. She is certified in pelvic floor rehabilitation and biofeedback for pelvic floor disorders. Outside of teaching and treating patients, Jenna loves to spend time with family and friends, run, cook, travel, do yoga and snuggle with her doggo.
Nari Clemons
Nari Clemons, PT, PRPC (she/her) has been teaching with Herman & Wallace institute since 2004. She has written the following courses: Lumbar Nerve Manual Assessment /Treatment, as well as Sacral Nerve Manual Assessment/Treatment. She has co-authored the PF Series Capstone course with Allison Ariail and Jen Vande Vegte, and the Boundaries, Self Care, and Meditation Course (the burnout course) with Jen Vandevegte. In addition to teaching the classes she has authored, Nari also teaches all the other classes in the PF series: PF1, PF2A, PF2B, and Capstone. She was one of the question authors for the PRPC, and she has presented at many conferences, including CSM.
Nari’s passions include teaching students how to use their hands more receptively and precisely for advanced manual therapy skills while keeping it simple enough to feel successful. She also is an advocate for therapists learning how to feel well and thrive as they care for others, which is a skill that can be developed. “Basically, I love helping therapists learn to help themselves and others more while having a lot of fun doing it”. Nari lives in Portland Oregon, where she runs a local study/mentoring group and has a private practice, Portland Pelvic Therapy. Her interests include meditation, working out, nature, and being constantly humbled from raising her three amazing teenagers!
