In this class, we’ll explore what’s happening hormonally at perimenopause, with a specific focus on pelvic health, covering bladder, bowel & sexual dysfunction. There is a good and growing evidence base to support the role of pelvic rehab for a whole person approach to GSM, whether or not a person is using hormonal therapy - so we can’t let our services be too well kept of a secret! This class will review current evidence and translate it into clinical application - a perimenopausal pelvic rehab approach is often the missing link in helping women live well at menopause & beyond.
Upon completion of this presentation, attendees will:
- 1. Have an understanding of the hormonal changes of perimenopause
- 2. Gain an insight into how pelvic health is affected by these changes
- 3. Be confident in discussing GSM with the patients we serve and the healthcare colleagues we collaborate with
- 4. Appreciate the evidence that supports a multi modal pelvic rehab approach to bladder, bowel, sexual and relevant musculoskeletal issues of menopause
- 5. Have the evidence base and clinical reasoning to create & deliver a biopsychosocial pelvic rehab services to menopausal women, whether their menopause is natural, surgical or medically induced
